QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
The firm of Crawford & Stearns has extensive experience in History Museum
& Historic Sites Assessments; ADA Compliance; Preservation & Historic
Resource Planning; Community Planning & Commercial Facade Revitalization;
also work involved in utilizing rehabiliations tax credits under the Economic
Recovery Tax Act and Landmark Preservation Board Consulting and Training
Services.

RECENT
& REPRESENTATIVE CONSULTING WORK:
- 1996-2002: Earlville Opera House, Earlville NY is a regional
performing arts facility in an historic building, with a second floor
theater and a first floor gallery. Consultancy was an historic building
conditions assessment with adaptive reuse planning and accessibility improvements.
- 1999-2002: Upper Catskill Community Council on the Arts is a
regional arts council that is turning an historic building in Oneonta,
NY into an arts center. Historic building conditions assessment, planning
for rehabilitation and accessibility improvements.
- 1994-2002: Fenton History Center, Jamestown NY is a regional
history center and historic house musuem. Work includes an historic building
conditions assessment, roofing & drainage improvements, preliminary space
needs planning, and evaluation of multiple sites for program expansion.
- 2002: Edwards Town Hall & Opera House is a local arts organization
in association with the Town of Edwards, NY. Historic building conditions
assessment, space needs consultation and adaptive reuse planning for a
municipal building with an opera house and local history center.
- 1988-ongoing: Historic Palmyra, Inc. is a nonprofit group operating
3 historic properties in Palmyra NY. (The Alling Coverlet Museum, Historic
Building and the William Phelps General Store.) Crawford & Stearns has
been their architects and preservation consultants since 1988 in the 1826
Phelps Store. The work included an historic structure report.
- 1986-ongoing: Oneida Community Mansion, Oneida, NY. In 1988 the
nonprofit Oneida Community Mansion House (OCMH) acquired the 93,000 square
foot Mansion House from Oneida, Ltd. OCMH operates the museum and educational
activities in accordance with their mission "to maintain, preserve and
restore the Oneida Community Mansion House..." Crawford & Stearns did
a 4-phase historic structure report for the mansion house, CAP assessment
(Conservation Assessment Program through a grant from the Institute of
Museum & Library Services); a Master Plan and continues consultation for
building restoration.
FEE:
Crawford & Stearns works extensively with nonprofit agencies and while
fees are on hourly basis based on project size and complexity, they can
vary. The firm can assist with identification of funding sources related
to historic properties for.

Alliance of New York State Arts Organizations has a 29-year history as
New York s service association for community based arts and cultural
organizations. The Alliance provides leadership and vision, and delivers
services, resources and tools that strengthen cultural organizations.
The Alliance informs the field on statewide and national issues affecting
the arts and assists local arts agencies in building community support.
