| President Holds Arts Funding Level For FY 2006, the President has level funded the National Endowment for the Arts and The National Endowment for the Humanities with a request for $121.3 million for NEA and $138.1 million for NEH. Of particular concern this year is a proposed redistribution of $6.5 million that would result in a 30% cut in the longstanding and Congressionally-popular NEA Challenge America program, which uses the arts to enhance Americas communities through grants for arts education and improved access to the arts for all Americans, especially in underserved communities. It appears that the cut to Challenge America will be used support the American Masterpieces Initiative to celebrate our Nation's great artistic achievements with special touring programs in dance, visual arts, and music; local presentations; in-school arts education programs; and student visits to exhibitions, presentations, and performances. The President requested a funding boost of $4.19 million (a 12 percent increase) for the Office of Museum Services, bringing the total OMS budget to $38.9 million. You can make your voice heard by writing your Members of Congress and urging them to increase funding for the arts.
